Future of Democracy

Innovating LEGO

The prevalence of misinformation and targeted advertising on social media and other online platforms is testing the efficacy of our democratic systems. This was highlighted in the 2016 Brexit campaign as well as the US presidential election with the involvement of Cambridge Analytica.

My team and I are looking ahead to 2030 to predict the effects that emerging technologies will continue to have on democracy. We hope to create a solution to mitigate these adverse effects using concepts such as Blockchain, emotion recognition, machine learning and more.

LEGO's mission statement is to "Inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow" and they have been doing this successfully since the late 1950s. However, as children are increasingly looking to the digital world for entertainment value, how will LEGO remain competitive?

My team and I have challenged ourselves by creating a venture for LEGO that maintains their goal to instil creativity in children while educating them about one of the manufacturing techniques of the future, 3D printing.
